Mastin, Quentin

Welcome to 6th Grade!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to 6th grade and our class!  This year will be action-packed with exciting adventures and, of course, lots of learning!

Before we get started, please review the following “ground rules” for how things will work this year.

The Teacher: I am Quentin Mastin and this is my 17th year of teaching.  I have a son in 8th and a daughter in 4rd.  I am looking forward to an outstanding year full of challenges for my students and myself.

The Student: All students in our class will be expected to give their best effort at all times!  We all have different strengths and weaknesses, and we will use these to our advantage.  ALL students and their likenesses and differences will be RESPECTED.

The Parent/Guardian:  You are the reason we are here, and we need your support! We encourage you to take part in learning whenever possible. I will create a parent email list.  PLEASE make sure I have your email.  This is an excellent way to communicate throughout the year.

Discipline/Behavior:  In addition to the expectations of Scales Elementary and the 6th grade team, I expect ALL students to behave appropriately.  There are behaviors that may be acceptable at home, but will not be tolerated at school.  We will discuss these as they arise.

Our class has 3 “Keys to Success” (AKA: Rules)

  1. Be Respectful
  2. Be Responsible
  3. Be Honest

Homework: Students have been given an agenda to keep their homework assignments written down.    If students work hard during the day, additional homework will not be assigned. If any work is not completed at school it will automatically become homework. If for any reason homework cannot be completed PLEASE send me a note.

Snack: Students may bring a HEALTHY snacks each day. Just a reminder that snack is a privilege. Students will also be allowed a water bottle at their desk provided they have a top on them.

Lunch: Our lunchtime is scheduled for 12:40-1:10.

Special Area:  We are on a 6-day rotation.  It is your child’s responsibility to know what special area they will be going to each day.  It will be posted on the board each week.  Students will also be given the opportunity to participate in band this year.  If you have any questions or comments, please call and leave me a message at school (895-5279) or email me.

Welcome!  Let’s make it a great year!
